August 16, 2019Reviewer: kreela in Virginia* Guar gum powder is supposed to be a stronger thickener than Xantham gum. I read in an ebook about gums that the thickening power of each is enhanced by combining guar gum and xantham gum. ======================================================================== I did not find the guar gum alone to thicken any better than xantham gum, and it seems to smell and act more like corn starch. However, added with xantham gum powder 50/50 in a spare jar I keep on hand, I mix it into sauces as I cook them and it does the job. I prefer Konjac root powder to either of these, but I use all 3 for the synergistic effects (extra thickening and less gumminess).
